At Social27, our mission is to increase access to high-quality IT for everyone, everywhere – including users with disabilities. We seek to understand and respect the unique needs and perspectives of the Social27 global community, and we value every user. We test our platform with assistive technologies and continually listen to customer feedback to build products that fit their needs.
The Social27 platform conforms to WCAG standards, and Social27’s accessibility team is happy to assist any clients who request an accessibility compliance review for their specific events.
Supported Accessibility Features
People with various permanent, temporary, situational, or changing disabilities access the web in different ways. The following features/technologies enabled within our platform ensure everyone can participate in events hosted on our platform regardless of whether they can manipulate a mouse, their level of vision, how many colors they can see, how much they can hear, or how they process information.
Screen Reader Compatibility
People with low vision, people who are blind, and people with dyslexia typically navigate our platform using a screen reader that converts text to speech and provides non-visual navigation commands. To ensure compatibility with this assistive technology, we incorporate detailed and consistent navigational elements in the page structure, such as HTML headers, titles, and lists.
Landmark ARIA roles and ARIA for web applications are supported on our platform, which help screen reader users easily navigate to different page sections and elements.
Note: Please reach out to your Social27 CSM if you are interested in enabling this screen reader compatibility for your events. |
Labeled Forms
We explicitly label form fields such as checkboxes, data fields, and radio or option buttons so people using assistive technology, such as screen readers, can understand them. Labels indicate the user has encountered a field, explain what type of field it is, and in some cases, provide additional cues to let the user know what type of information is needed.
Keyboard Accessibility
Many users with motor disabilities rely on a keyboard, rather than a mouse, to navigate a website. Some people have tremors, which don't allow for fine muscle control. Others have little or no use of their hands, or no hands at all. Blind users also typically use a keyboard for navigation. Users without disabilities may use a keyboard for navigation because of preference or efficiency.
Our platform is accessible via keyboard. The functions that can be performed using either a mouse or a keyboard include:
- Links
- Menus
- Buttons
- Checkboxes
- Radio buttons
- Form fields
- Drag and drop
- Text selection
- Resizing
- Initiating a chat session
Our platform uses visible keyboard focus indicators to help users who are using keyboard navigation understand where on the page their keyboard is currently focused.
Resize Text
Our platform supports text resizing to assist those who need larger text sizes.
Alternative Text for Images
People who can’t see images rely on well-written, descriptive text (called an “ALT attribute”). This alternative text is visible to screen readers and helps users understand the information we convey.
Session Captioning
Social27 supports captioning of live sessions.
Audio
Sound quality is important for all users and critical for people who are deaf and/or hard of hearing, and is important for individuals with trouble paying attention, and more. We are continually improving our platform to ensure our audio is of the highest quality.
We encourage our even owners to create guidelines for their session/meeting hosts to mute participants who are not speaking to ensure the current speaker can clearly be heard by all users attending the session/meeting.
Video
We allow attendees to turn off their video if they are not comfortable to open to sharing their video.
Screen Sharing
Users can share their screens to present information to the participants who are attending their session/meeting.
Color contrast
Contrast and color use are vital to accessibility. Users, including users with visual disabilities, must be able to perceive content on the page. Our platform allows event organizers to select colors that provide maximum contrast (including contrast between text and the text background) so that text and non-decorative images are legible for anyone with low vision or color deficiencies.
Plain language
We recommend that event organizers use simple, concise language to help all users, including individuals with intellectual and learning disabilities, cognitive issues, traumatic brain injuries, and other disabilities, navigate our platform.
Event-Specific Accessibility Compliance Review
While the Social27platform itself is compliant with WCAG standards, you may want to ensure that your specific event, including your content and event page designs, meet accessibility standards. If an accessibility compliance review is required for your event, please reach out to your CSM in advance to ensure the review and required fixes can be completed before your event begins.
During this review, four different accessibility test reports are generated:
- Automatic
- Manual
- Screen reader
- Player accessibility
Once the reports are generated, issues are remediated, and the event is retested. This testing/remediation is an iterative process and may require multiple cycles.
Note: The accessibility compliance review can take up to two weeks to complete, depending on the complexity of the event and demand from our client base. The review timeline is completed as follows:
