How Do I Create Quizzes?
Incorporating quizzes into your event is a great way to gauge whether your attendees understand the information presented to them during sessions or Happy Hours. Follow the steps below to create and modify quizzes for your event.
This article covers the following topics:
- Creating a Quiz
- Adding Questions and Pages
- Moving and Deleting Questions and Pages
- Editing Properties
- Testing and Saving
Creating a Quiz
To create a quiz, log in to the Events Builder and click on your event. Click Forms in the left navigation panel and select Polls and Quizzes, then click Add Quiz.
Use the drop-down menu to indicate whether you would like the quiz to appear during a session or Happy Hour, and click Select Session Or Happy Hour to specify which session or Happy Hour should be associated with the quiz. (If you're not sure yet, you can always come back later to add this information.)
You can set the same quiz to appear during multiple sessions/Happy Hours by clicking the green + button. Remove the quiz from sessions/Happy Hours by clicking the red - button.
Enter a title for your quiz in the General section of the Properties menu.
Make sure the dropdown menu is set to "Quiz" when you update the title. The other options in this dropdown will allow you to enter titles for quiz pages and individual questions, as well as adjust a host of other settings.
Note that you can click the arrows on the Toolbox and Properties menus to give yourself more screen space to create and view your questions.
Adding Questions and Pages
To add questions to your quiz, click one of the question types in the Toolbox menu It will appear in the center panel. Note that you can use the page menu at the top of this center panel to include questions on a single page or to add multiple pages.
You can add three different types of questions to your quizzes.
Checkbox questions allow attendees to make multiple selections. Add additional answer options by clicking the plus sign that appears below the answer options list, and remove options by hovering over them and clicking the x icon.
Radiogroup questions allow attendees to select a single answer. Add additional answer options by clicking the plus sign that appears below the answer options list, and remove options by hovering over them and clicking the x icon.
Drop-down questions allow attendees to select a response from a drop-down menu. Use this question type (as opposed to the radiogroup type) if you want to present many possible responses but don't want to clutter the screen by showing all options in a long list. Add additional answer options by clicking the plus sign that appears below the answer options list, and remove options by hovering over them and clicking the x icon.
You can require a response to questions by clicking the exclamation point icon in the question toolbar or by clicking the Is required? toggle in the question’s Properties menu (General section).
Moving and Deleting Questions and Pages
Move quiz questions that appear on the same page by clicking the three horizontal lines in the question toolbar and dragging the question up or down. Be sure to update their names if you have chosen to display question names.
If your quiz has multiple pages, rearrange them by clicking and dragging the page back and forth in the center panel menu.
Remove questions and pages by hovering over the question/page and clicking the x icon.
The Properties menu on the right side of the screen displays your quiz settings. As you click on the various components of your quiz (questions, pages, etc.) the Properties menu will automatically change to display that section’s properties. You can also use the dropdown to navigate directly to the settings for each part of your quiz:
There are a myriad of customization options available in the Properties menu, but the most commonly used ones are listed below.
The General section of the Properties menu gives you access to titles and names for your quiz, pages, and questions. The quiz title will be shown to attendees if you click the Show/hide title checkbox. Page names will be shown to attendees if you click the Show page titles checkbox.
Page names will be shown to attendees unless the Title field contains text. If you enter a page title, you can add detail to the Name field that won’t be displayed to attendees.
Question titles are the questions themselves. Like page names, question names are only visible inside the Events Builder, so you can make these as descriptive as you like.
Note: The Is visible? toggles in the Page and Question General settings are not the same as the Show hide/title checkbox in the Quiz General settings. These toggles determine whether the question or page is displayed to attendees.
Basic Quiz Settings
Navigate to the Basic Quiz Settings section to set the passing percentage for the quiz, whether or not the quiz can be retaken, and how many questions will be shown to the user.
If you want to customize how question names are displayed, select Question. In this section, you can set where the name appears, whether or not questions are numbered, and how question numbers are formatted.
Show on Completed
If you want a message to appear to attendees after they complete a quiz, navigate to the Show on Completed section. You can enter a message to be displayed to attendees here. If you prefer, you can specify that attendees be taken to a different website instead by entering a web address in the Navigate to URL field.
If you would like your quiz to be timed, navigate to the Time/Quiz section. Here, you can set maximum time to complete individual quiz pages or the quiz in its entirety. You can also set whether or not the timer displays for attendees.
You can set the order answer choices are presented to attendees by using the Choices section. Click on the question in the center pane or select it from the Properties dropdown in order to access the Choices section. Use the Select choices order dropdown to set whether you answer options appear in the order in which you created them (none), in alphabetical order (either ascending or descending), or in random order.
Use the Data section to set which answer choice is correct. For checkbox questions, you will likely have multiple correct answers.
Use the Page dropdown in the Layout section to move questions between quiz pages.
Testing and Saving
To test and preview your quiz, click the Test survey tab in the center panel. Note that you can use the Choose device dropdown to preview how the quiz would look on different devices.
Once your quiz is complete (or if you need to pause work and come back to it), go to the Quiz Designer tab and click Save Quiz.
